Im Mackavelli offspring/King of New York/King of the Coast, one hand I juggle them both - Kendrick Lamar
That should be the response. Well, now this is interesting. Let's get to it shall we.
Kendrick Lamar, on a new uncleared Big Sean release, that was not able to be put on the album, "Control", claimed that he will "murder", lyrically speaking of course, some of Hip Hop current prominent artist like RCA recording artist ASAP Rocky, YMCMB recording artist Drake, BIG K.R.I.T., Def Jam recording artist BIG SEAN, G.O.O.D. Music Pusha T, Maybach Music Wale, Tyler, Mac Miller, and Maybach Music Meek Mill. Kendrick Lamar has surely stirred the pot in a way that hasn't been done since The Game was calling out G-Unit, Nas calling out Jay-Z, Nelly, and Hot 97, and 50 Cent calling out, well, everyone.
Since we know he is doing it for hiphop, and not just to create a buzz around an upcoming album, he deserves this attention he has been recently getting. Now it's not the fact he dissed the named rappers above. Fact, he is more lyrical then all of them. So what's the big deal? HE SELF-PROCLAIMED HIMSELF KING OF NEW YORK AND THAT IS SOMETHING YOU DONT DO, but at the same time, in the words of King James, "its about damn time". Its about time someone remembered what hip hop is allllll about. Its about competition. Why are we talking about the fit ASAP Rocky is wearing in his new video? Why are we talking about Bugattis when none of you even sat in a Fisker Karma let alone drive one. Why do we care what sneakers you got and how exclusive they are? Impress me, show me you can raise eyebrows, make haters, and just be disrespectful. We at Themicbooth.com love the fact he did it. We love the fact he did it to New York. But, like all real New Yorkers, those who grew up in the 90's. Those who if you say Queens is better than Brooklyn or vice versa, there would be a fight on the other side of town about it. Those that lived through the Jay Z and Nas beef, taking sides, arguing over blunts for hours about who is better. That's hiphop, its suppose to get you talking.
Kendrick Lamar certainly has energized some of the established East Coast rappers like Fabolous, who responded on Twitter with "Are there any studios open yet?", and Joe Buddens saying how rappers are scared to ruin relationships and won't respond. However, in our opinion it cant be them to respond. it MUST be, current artist that have a connection to the hip hop DNA of this era. Fans of today are fans because a blog said to be. Its going to take a current artist like ASAP Rocky, Bodega Bamz, Joey Badass, or comparable artist.
Todays fan is so disconnected, their mind so slowed, they will take what we are saying here as saying Kendrick Lamar should not had said this. He should have absolutely said it. Its in his right. Just like its is the duty of a New York rapper to respond. Hip Hop is the news of the streets built on competition to allow people to decide what is better and who side to take. For now, until the next MC puts his vocals in to binary code, we will be left to wonder, was this a diss to New York, or a Big up. He claimed to be the child of Tupac, who was born in New York, and moved to California. So, is that what he means by the line. That would be logic, and if logic is what hiphop was built on, would it be any fun?
If there is news out there believe the scoop will be here.
