MR. CHEEKS GRACES
A CHANGE IN THE HIP HOP
Hip Hop has evolved over the years, to the point that new genres
have developed to best qualify the demographic one markets to. Ok, enough with
the business mumbo jumbo, this record is hot. Maybe it is because I am
approaching 30 (I aint worried bout nothing), but there comes a time when you
don't want to chase the fast girls of Club Speed, Webster Hall, or
Nagasaki's. There comes a time when you are tired of impressing the
overrated ladies that are in Greenhouse, Toshi, Fashion Forty, and BB Kings on a
weekly basis. There will be a time where you don't want to spend half your
check at Rivieras, Sou Rendevous, or Perfections, ok maybe we going to
There will be a time when you want
to relax, have a BBQ and in the words of Nas "without the cops harassing".
What will happen to your taste of music? Will you stop listening to your
favorite artist simply because you feel its not mature enough? Well, for
consumers, the answer is yes, which is why this record is such an outstanding
body of work. Mr. Cheeks understands his fan base has gotten older,
working decent 9-5's, have a family, and he knows not to let that true fan get
Fused with a blend
of blues, jazz, and little bit of Motown soul, "Atmosphere", led by "NoImage",
gives off that vibe that is sure to be as big of a wedding song as "Get Up" was
for every South Side brother that has gotten married, or had to attend a baby
shower for the past 16 years.(Oh you didn't we know history, see "Get Up" video
below). Mr. Cheeks has no problem maintaining that platinum flow all his fans
adore him for. He said its not a "rap attitude" but Mr. Cheeks surely displays
his annoyance with people thinking he fell off, feels he is broke, not relevant,
addressing it in his first couple of bars with "we the future, salute me I
salute yah" and "everybody wanna know where you at where you be where you go".
Surely Mr. Cheeks, as evident to the song, is
alive and well and enjoying life. No Image is definitely grooving, and the
video, shot by Zodiac Fishgrease and Saint, legendary directors themselves,
bring out the life of the song. Showing how the people arrived in the
club, what was going on prior to the song, scene changes, all the things that
are missing in todays under developed talent. You can jump if you want to
be mad if you want to hate if you want to or love it if you want to but this is
certainly a video worth sharing with the world, especially if you love
So what is the truth about Bling Bling? Many people judge rappers for wasting money on cars and jewelry. People say they don't save. This may be true but are the really the ones #WINNING.
Maybe we are wrong, but isn't money a representation of something more valuable. Just saying, it is written in quite of few United States history books that money in fact is a representation of gold.
So if these artist continue to do what people call wasteful spending, they will realize they are only exchanging the paper for valuable GOLD!!!! So keep on dropping your record advance on those gold chains. Your bank account may be broke now but your pandora box will be worth a ton when the revolution begins!!!
If there is news out there believe the scoop will be here.
